Island Ugljan

The island of Ugljan is an integral part of the Zadar archipelago and also the closest island to the cultural and economic center of the county, Zadar. It is one of the most beautiful and most visited parts of the Croatian Mediterranean. It is separated from the whole by the Zadar Channel, and from the island of Pašman by the narrow crossing Ždrelac over which the bridge crosses and connects the island of Ugljan and the island of Pašman. In terms of area, it is the 14th largest among Croatian islands, and the 4th largest among the Zadar islands (behind Pag, Dugi otok and Pašman). In 2016, the island of Ugljan was declared a hidden gem on the Best European Destination portal.

The island has 7 settlements, of which Ugljan is the largest in terms of space and is located in its northwestern part, which due to its relief characteristics has the most hours of sunshine in the entire Zadar area. Ugljan has sandy and pebble beaches where camps are located. Numerous apartments, rooms and villas, mostly near the sea, offer quality accommodation and vacation for anyone who wants to enjoy the untouched nature and clean sea. Swimmers will be delighted by the sandy beaches, the most beautiful of which is in the bay of Muline.

Preko is the administrative center of the island and the ferry port.

The island of Ugljan and its settlements preserve the traditional architect who exudes the Dalmatian charm of narrow streets and old stone houses.

It is covered with lush Mediterranean vegetation, and the connection with the sea is beautified by numerous bays of various sizes and shapes. The island of Ugljan, with more than 200,000 planted olive trees, is rightly known as the island of olives.

From the top of Sv. Mihovila (263 m) with a large medieval fortress offers a panoramic view of the entire Zadar archipelago and the islands of Iž, Sestrunj, Pašman and Dugi otok.

The island of Ugljan, in addition to being ideal for swimming, sunbathing and gastronomic pleasures, also offers many opportunities for active holidays.
