Betina

Betina is a place on the northeast coast of the island of Murter, which is connected to the mainland by a drawbridge in Tisno. It is located 35 km west of Šibenik. Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Tisno. It has a population of just under 800. Due to its location and preserved architecture, it is considered one of the most beautiful places on the Adriatic.

The central, historic part of Betina was built on the eastern slopes of cape Artić at the northern entrance to the Murter channel. The place is dominated by the parish church of Sv. Francis of Assisi from the 15th century with a beautiful baroque bell tower, and from it radiates a network of old stone streets with picturesque bolts and vaults. Many call her "the beauty of folk Mediterranean architecture" because of these features and beautiful views.

Betina is, along with Korčula, the most famous and oldest seat of excellent caulkers (shipbuilders in wood). It is one of the last refuges of wooden shipbuilding in Europe. The Soul and Body Regatta, a competition in wooden boats, is held here every year.

Apart from being famous shipbuilders, the people of Betinje were also famous shellfish. Many generations of Betinians were fed by the shell. Today, when shellfish fishing is banned, and in honor of this tradition, for 40 years, Brganje Day (the first Sunday in August) has been held, a big all-day party with an entertainment program.

Betina beaches are scattered throughout the place, and are characterized by exceptional sea clarity and attractiveness. The most famous are Plitka Vala, Kosirina, Zdrače, Bisage. In addition to enjoying your summer vacation, you can enrich your stay in Betina by sailing, diving, cycling, and hiking on the surrounding hills, which offer a beautiful view of the places and surrounding islands.
