Do you know when you enjoy fig consumption you actually enjoy the flower?

More precisely, the fig tree is actually a flower, but it is eaten as a fruit. For millennia, figs are part of a typical healthy Mediterranean diet.

The 20th Fig Days, which take place from 21 to 30 August, is a traditional event that has been held in the town of Krk since 2007. The anniversary edition is being held in the year in which Kvarner holds the title of European Region of Gastronomy, which further emphasizes the importance of local ingredients and tradition in the modern tourist and gastronomic offer. The value of the event has also been recognized at the national level - at the end of last year, the Tourist Board of the Town of Krk won the Bronze Charter of the Sunflower Award for Rural Tourism for the Fig Days, in the category "Accessible Tourism and Strengthening Rural Communities".

This ten-day event celebrates the beloved Mediterranean fruit through top-notch gastronomy, creative workshops, a local produce market and a musical program. As many as 14 restaurants, taverns and cafes in the Krk area offer special dishes and desserts with figs. This year, the fig appears in imaginative savory and sweet combinations.

The main and richest part of the entertainment and educational program takes place over the weekend in the area next to Veli Park, where a sales exhibition of fig products will be set up throughout all three days, along with creative workshops and educational content.

The event to enriches the tourist offer and promoting fig growing as an agricultural branch, efforts are being made to encourage caterers, producers and traders to include this valuable fruit in their offer and thus contribute to the gastronomic identity of the city and the island of Krk. And everyone can plant their own fig tree, as there is a distribution of seedlings and individual counseling on fig growing.
