The Rijeka Carnival is the largest and most famous carnival in the Kvarner area and certainly the most recognizable part of the image of the city of Rijeka itself. His magnificent parades and imaginative performances make him one of the most important carnivals in Europe and the most significant carnival event in Croatia. Carnival is listed on 500 Top 500 European Events, Sunday Times has declared it one of the most excotic events in the world and the Rijeka Tourist Board received the Golden Touristic Heart Award as the organizer of the best tourist event in Southeast Europe in 2009. year. The Rijeka Carnival is also an important segment of the European Capital of Culture project in 2020 as a cultural and traditional event that is an integral part of the city's identity. All these facts attract more and more visitors from all over the world to participate in the Rijeka Carnival and enjoy the colors, the excellent mood, a dance and ultimately to hide behind their masks and be what they wanna be for at least one day.

The fifth season in Rijeka begins on January 17th, the feast of St. Anthony or Antonj. It begins with the raising of the carnival flag, always in a different part of the city. Following with the selection and crowning of the new Queen of Rijeka Carnival (23.01.) and handing the City keys to the crazy carnival people. The “new government” is scheduled to host more fun, concerts and sports such as Carnival snowboard session (01.02.) -snowboarding at Platak, Night of crinolinas aboard the Marina (24.01.), Laughing Days (21.01.-11.02.), Carnival Run (07.02.), The Charity Masquerade Ball in Exportdrvo (14.02.) with a culmination with Children's paradde (15.02.) and International Parade (02.03.) whih is sublimation of everything that preceded it during the fifth season. It is a parade of Rijeka's carnival speciality that is based on tradition, but lives today, cleverly designing its carnival tomorrow.

This year, Rijeka Carnival’s human aspect is underscored by a personalised communication campaign “People Who Make the Carnival”, an exhibition on Korzo which showcases people who dedicate their lives to the carnival 365 days a year and runs until January 16th.
